Interior and exterior paints are engineered for completely different environments.

Exterior paint is formulated to resist UV exposure, moisture, mildew, temperature swings, and salt air. It contains UV inhibitors and mildewcides that help it survive San Diego's coastal conditions — but these additives would off-gas unacceptably if used indoors.

Interior paint is designed for easy cleaning, low VOC content, and color stability under artificial light. It's not built to handle weather, which is why using interior paint outside causes rapid peeling and failure.
